Russian-Israeli air operations coordination mechanism working - Matviyenko

JERUSALEM. Feb 3 (Interfax) - Russia is satisfied with how efforts are being coordinated between the Russian Aerospace Force and the Israeli Air Force on the Syria track, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko has said.

"During Prime Minister Netanyahu's visit to Russia last September our leaders reached agreement on creating a mechanism for coordination between the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Israeli Air Force on the Syria track. Today I can definitely say that we are satisfied with how our mechanism is working," Matviyenko told reporters in Jerusalem on Wednesday during an official visit by a Federation Council delegation to Israel.

The two countries' general staffs have established cooperation, which is extremely important in the interest of security, she said.

"It is producing concrete results," the speaker said.

Alex Goldman-Shaiman, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Israeli Embassy to Russia and deputy head of the diplomatic mission, told Interfax earlier that Israel was satisfied with the work of the joint mechanism, which aims to prevent incidents between the two countries' militaries during Russia's aerospace force operation in Syria. The mechanism has proved efficient in practice, he said.
