Russia, EU reaffirm determination to continue interaction during Geneva discussions on security in S. Caucasus
MOSCOW. Feb 4 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin, and EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, and the crisis in Georgia, Herbert Salber, discussed the situation in the South Caucasus in the context of the current complications in the international situation and the fight against terrorism at a meeting in Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"The conversation dealt with the situation in the South Caucasus in the context of the complications in the international situation, the fight against terrorism, and threats to security and stability for the countries of the region," the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.
Karasin and Salber attached particular significance to the situation on Abkhazia's and South Ossetia's borders with Georgia, and the EU Monitoring Mission's activities, it said.
The two diplomats reaffirmed "mutual determination to continue constructive interaction between Russia and the European Union in the course of the Geneva discussions on security and stability in the South Caucasus. They also touched upon problems of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement process," the ministry said.
