Syrian army's success demonstrates good interaction with Russian Aerospace Forces - Latakia governor
LATAKIA (Syria). Feb 8 (Interfax) - The recent success of the Syrian army proves the efficiency of its interaction with the Russian Aerospace Forces' group, Latakia Governor Ibrahim Khder al-Saalem said on Monday.
"These victories evidence the good joint work of the Syrian army and the Russian Aerospace Force's group. They demonstrate that our people hold on to their land and will never give it up to the terrorists to torment," the governor told fresh recruits.
A growing number of Syrian citizens want to support their compatriots by joining volunteer units, against the backdrop of the ongoing offensive of government forces on radical Islamists' strongholds, he said.
Last week, the Syrian army blocked main supply routes from Turkey to terrorist positions in the north of the Aleppo province. Later on, the troops, supported by volunteers, the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Air Force, managed to break the four-year siege of Nubel and az-Zahra with an approximate population of 70,000. The government troops continued their offensive to the north, towards Turkey, on Friday. Their goal is take full control of the border, across which the militants have been regularly supplied with fresh personnel and hardware.
"The civilian population has been fighting together with the army since the very beginning of the conflict. This is the fifth recruitment of volunteers, which shows that people are united in the face of the common threat. Soon enough, our province and the whole of Syria will be fully cleared from terrorism," the governor said.
