Terrorism rather than Russian military operation causes Syrian migration to Europe - Federation Council member Ozerov
MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax) - The influx of Syrian refugees in Europe has not been triggered by the military operation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, but rather by the activity of terrorist organizations, Federation Council Defense and Security Committee Chairman Viktor Ozerov has said.
"The source of this migration is not the Russian bombardments, but the activity of terrorist organizations in the territory of Syria. We are doing our best to eliminate these causes, and Merkel is trying to fight the forces and means, which are eliminating these causes, so that the causes linger on for as long as possible," Ozerov told Interfax on Tuesday.
"I understand her emotionally, but she is not clear to me from a strictly practical point of view," he said.
German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmed Davutoglu agreed on Monday on a number of steps for stopping refugees from Syria, the Associated Press news agency said.
According to the news agency, the sides pledged joint diplomatic efforts for stopping operations of Syrian government troops in the Aleppo area.
