Kyrgyz premier accepts resignation of Bishkek mayor
BISHKEK. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Vice Mayor of Bishkek for social development, family and child support Aigul Ryskulova has been appointed acting mayor of the Kyrgyz capital, Interfax was told at the press service of the Kyrgyz government on Tuesday.
"Prime Minister Temir Sariyev has accepted the resignation of the previous city head and signed instructions appointing Vice Mayor Ryskulova acting mayor," an Interfax interlocutor said.
The Kyrgyz Central Elections Commission should set the date of elections within 20 days of the formation of the city elections commission. The elections will involve candidates representing parliamentary factions and the prime minister.
According to the government press service, Ryskulova has started performing her new duties and will remain in office until the announcement of the mayoral election is returned.
On Tuesday morning Kubanychbek Kulmatov, who had been mayor since January 15, 2014, tended his resignation without naming any reasons. Deputy chair of the city council of deputies Asel Pirmatova told the local media that "the resignation of the mayor of Bishkek is a political decision, probably made higher up."
Meanwhile, the press service of the city administration reports that "Kulmatov will be assigned to another state post."
