Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov explains why Russia came to Syria

MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Russia launched its operation in Syria because it was unable to put up with the inefficient measures taken against terrorists by the U.S. coalition, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has said.

"We have come to Syria, in particular, by use of airborne attack means, because we could no longer put up with the quasi-measures or, actually, the inactivity of the so-called anti-ISIL coalition led by the United States, which was not resolving those tasks [the fight against ISIL, outlawed in Russia]," he said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel.

BRICS colleagues of Russia showed understanding of the Russian Aerospace Forces' operation in Syria, he said.

As for the joint efforts of Russia and BRICS countries in the fight against terrorism, Ryabkov said that specialized agencies of Russia and other member countries of the organization had been maintaining contacts and exchanging information in this field.
