Moldovan Socialists to start rallying outside of foreign embassies on Tuesday
CHISINAU. Feb 15 (Interfax) - The opposition Socialist Party of Moldova intends to conduct protest actions outside several diplomatic missions in Chisinau, its chairman Igor Dodon, told the press on Monday.
"Beginning tomorrow, we will be conducting daily protest actions outside of the embassies of Romania, the USA, and Germany, and also the Delegation of the European Union, and the World Bank office. Thus, we will express our opposition for the support of the unpopular government of oligarchs by Western countries. Oligarchs succeeded in setting up a new Cabinet, and continue the genocide of their own people, only thanks to this support," Dodon said.
He said that the Socialist Party "will do its utmost to prevent the rendering of financial assistance to this government."
"We will be working to overthrow power, we will achieve our objective - early parliamentary elections. The truth is on our side, 80% of the country's population wants that. Therefore, we will be picketing and blocking not only the buildings of government institutions but also their henchmen," the Socialist leader said.
Pavel Filip's government was approved on January 20. The opposition claims that the Cabinet approval procedure, and the formation of the parliamentary majority which approved it, were seriously rigged. Opposition forces announced plans to join their efforts, step up protests, abandon party flags and symbols, in order to rally the masses in nationwide actions regardless of citizens' political preferences.
At the end of January, the leaders of the Civic Platform DA, the Socialist Party and Our Party held a session of the Civic Forum at which they decided to suspend massive protests for 30 days, and put forth a number of demands to the government.
The resolution of the Civic Forum contains a demand on conducting direct presidential elections together with parliamentary elections, no later than in the fall of this year. The resolution also contains a number of demands directed at "creating conditions for holding democratic and free elections with equal conditions for all participants."
