Health Ministry declares successful tests of Russian Ebola vaccine on humans

MOSCOW. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Clinical tests of the Russian Ebola vaccine on humans have been successful for almost six months, Russian Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova has said.

"A hundred percent of inoculated people demonstrate a high anti-body titer to the relevant agent. We have been monitoring the inoculated [people] for five months; the titer has been high for five months, and the blood serum of the inoculated people fully neutralizes the virus in laboratories," Skvortsova told reporters on Wednesday, after a meeting with WHO officials in Geneva.

In her words, the Russian delegation presented the vaccine in Geneva on February 15 and told the audience about its successful use, high tolerability and absence of side effects.

"At the present, there is readiness to test our vaccine in the Republic of Guinea and other countries of Western Africa," Skvortsova said.

The Russian medicine will also take part in comparative studies with other vaccines manufactured by U.S. and European pharmaceutical companies, she said.

In total, the world has three Ebola medicines at various stages of preparedness. The Russian vaccine has been demonstrating "extremely positive results," the minister said.
