Hungarian PM's stance on refugees appeals to Putin, as one protecting identity of own country, people
NOVO-OGAREVO. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Russia finds "attractive" Hungary's position as one standing for the nation's own identity amid the refugee crisis, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"The position of the Hungarian leadership, the Hungarian Prime Minister is the one attractive to us, which is, essentially, standing for its European identity, their own country's identity, the identity of their own people," Putin said following his talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
There are debates going on in the EU on the refugee problem, he added.
Talking of Russia's and Hungary's stance on this issue, Putin said: "We have expressed our views on the causes of this crisis. As far as I understand, we largely share our visions, but as for the refugee problem, this is an internal issue of the EU, we don't interfere with such things."
As for all other aspects related to the political settlement in the Middle East and military operations there, "the Prime Minister [of Hungary] maintains a position that is largely formulated by the European Union," Putin said. "And we understand it," Putin added.
