DPR reports over 100 Ukrainian army attacks over past day
DONETSK. Feb 18 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian army has conducted 102 attacks on the frontline territory of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic in the past 24 hours; there are casualties, the Donetsk news agency has reported, quoting the DPR Defense Ministry.
"The Ukrainian army shelled the republic's territory 102 times in 26 violations of the ceasefire. Four civilians were hurt in the explosions of projectiles and mines," the report said.
The gunfire was coming from hostile positions in Pisky, Krasnohorivka, Nevelske, Opytne, Maryinka and the Butovka mine towards Staromykhailivka, Spartak, Zhabycheve, the airport area and the Volvo Center on the outskirts of Donetsk.
"The enemy used 82mm and 120mm mortars 98 times, infantry combat vehicle weapons twice, and stationary anti-tank grenade launchers and small arms twice," the ministry said.
In turn, Eduard Basurin, a senior officer from the DPR Defense Ministry, told reporters about the injury of a DPR serviceman by a sniper at an observation post.
DPR intelligence continues to observe concentration of troops and military hardware near the contact line, he said.
"For instance, the arrival of seven howitzers has been seen in the town of Bilokuzmynivka [37 kilometers from the contact line], three infantry combat vehicles and 14 vehicles carrying troops in the town of Chasov Yar [20 kilometers from the contact line], and eight infantry combat vehicles and six vehicles carrying troops and ammunition in Novotroitske [six kilometers from the contact line]," Basurin said.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian army operation press center said that Ukrainian positions came under 47 attacks in Donbas over the past day.
