Peskov: implementation of Plan A for Syria is a priority for Russia
MOSCOW. Feb 24 (Interfax) - Russian presidential press officer Dmitry Peskov said, commenting on the presence in the U.S. of a Plan B for the Syrian settlement, that Russia is now focusing on the fulfillment of Plan A, which was announced by Moscow and Washington on Monday.
"You know that we are now focusing on Plan A," he told reporters.
"We believe it is our priority to discuss and work for the implementation of the plan, the initiative that was earlier worded by the presidents of the two countries," he said.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier, citing its sources, that some high-ranking officials of the U.S. administration are looking for ways to increase the pressure on Moscow, because they are confident it will not observe the agreement on the ceasefire in Syria.
Among the measures that are being considered for a situation, if the ceasefire is disrupted, is the provision of intelligence information to the Syrian opposition, so it can protect itself from the Russian Aerospace Forces, and possibly conduct more effective offensive operations. The other option envisages the imposition of new economic sanctions against Russia.
