Kyiv reports 28 militia attacks on Ukrainian positions on Wednesday

KYIV. Feb 24 (Interfax) - Kyiv has reported more of militia shelling of the Ukrainian army positions in the east of the country.

By 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, the enemy on Donbass had shelled the Ukrainian military positions 28 times; near Novotroitske, the Ukrainian army had to fire back, according to the Ukrainian military-operation headquarters.

In the Donetsk area, the enemy "used mortar launchers three times, having launched around 30 mortars against Ukrainian strongholds near Pervomaisk, Nevelsk and Zaitseve," the special-operation press center said on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

Militiamen fired large-caliber machineguns, various grenades and small arms against Ukrainian positions near Opitne, Zaitseve, Novosiolivka, Maiorsk, Pisky and Avdiivka, it said.

In the Mariupol area, the enemy fired mortars into Ukrainian strongholds near Hnutove and Chermalyk, the press center said. "Large-caliber machineguns and grenades were fired against our positions near Novotroitske and Maryinka," the press center said.

There was hostile sniper fire near Maryinka and the Butivka mine, the Ukrainian headquarters said.

"To pacify the enemy and stabilize the situation, the Ukrainian military fired back near Novotroitske, using infantry fighting vehicles and grenade launchers," the press center said.
