Syrian govt against buffer zones in any place of country - Syrian Ambassador to Russia
MOSCOW. Feb 25 (Interfax) - Damascus is against the creation of buffer zones in Syria, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad has said.
"I am absolutely unfamiliar with the 'plan B'. I know nothing about it, but we are against the creation of any buffer zones, either in the north of the country or in any other place," the Syrian diplomat told Interfax.
Haddad was commenting on a statement of U.S. John Kerry, who said that the alternative plan of the Syria settlement envisaged the creation of a 'security zone' in northern Syria, which would require the relocation of 15,000 to 30,000 fighters to Syria.
"We fully coordinate our steps with friends in the Russian Federation, in order to find a political solution to the problem. This is why, we have agreed with them on the ceasefire," the ambassador said.
