Lukashenko recognizes usefulness of Russia-Belarus Union State

MINSK. Feb 25 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said that preserving the Union State of Belarus and Russia was the right decision.

"We were right to have preserved the Union State. We realized the enduring value of Belarusian-Russian relations," Lukashenko told reporters in Minsk on Thursday after a meeting of the Union State's Supreme State Council.

The head of state also said that a number of Union State integration projects are being implemented in the Eurasian Economic Union.

At the Supreme State Council meeting the parties considered all aspects of Belarusian-Russian relations, including economic cooperation, Lukashenko said.

"Yes, we are affected by the global crisis. But I am convinced that we will overcome all our problems," he said.
