Moscow snowfall hits 1966 record

MOSCOW. March 2 (Interfax) - An intense cyclone from the southwest has brought record snowfalls to Moscow, the Russian Hydro-Meteorological Center said on Wednesday.

Up to 24 millimeters of precipitation fell in the VDNKh meteorological station area in Moscow last night, which is slightly more than 70% of the monthly norm (34mm), the report said.

The precipitation on March 2, 2016, hit the 1966 record (22.2mm), the Hydro-Meteorological Center said.

Heavy snowfalls were also observed in the Moscow region, primarily in the Naro-Fominsk district (up to 28mm).

The snow blanket grew to 50 centimeters in Moscow, the Hydro-Meteorological Center said.
