Pamfilova to quit post of Russian human rights commissioner following appointment to CEC - Peskov

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - Ella Pamfilova will have to leave her post as Russia's commissioner for human rights following her appointment to the new composition of the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC), and any new candidates for this post are so far unknown, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"Indeed, she will have to do so, and obviously, in the near future," Peskov told reporters after being asked whether or not Pamfilova would be required to resign as human rights commissioner due to her appointment to the CEC.

The post of Russia's commissioner for human rights is "vacant" now, Peskov said, adding that he does not know at this point whether there are any candidates for this job.

He also declined to comment on the possibility of appointing Pamfilova to chair the CEC.

"For now, I have said all I had to say on the topic of the CEC," Peskov said.

He also noted that the spectrum of the people appointed by the president is "quite broad".

"I mean the political spectrum. It includes both representatives of, let's put it this way, non-parliamentary factions, parties and parliamentary factions with a very wide range of political views and very rich experience in different areas. Let's simply wait a little bit, and then it will become clear who becomes its [CEC] head," he added.
