UN thanks Russian military for assistance to humanitarian missions

HMEIMIM, Syria. March 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Special envoy of UN Secretary General to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, thanked the Russian center for the reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria for its readiness to assist the implementation of UN plans, chief of the Russian center Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko, said.

"In the framework of settling the humanitarian crisis, yesterday, I sent a message to the special envoy of the UN Secretary General, Staffan de Mistura, with the request of assigning humanitarian aid to the population of 21 of the most damaged communities in the provinces of Damascus, Homs and Daraa, that have jointed the peaceful settlement process," Kuralenko told the press on Friday.

"The special envoy accepted the information to compile proposals for the plan of forming humanitarian convoys and expressed gratitude for the readiness of the Russian center for reconciliation to render assistance in implementing UN plans," Kuralenko said.
