Argentina could help build nuclear research center construction in Bolivia - Rosatom

LA PAZ. March 6 (Interfax) - Rosatom has not ruled out inviting Argentine partners to participate in the construction of a nuclear research and technology center in Bolivia, the state corporation's general director Sergei Kiriyenko said on Sunday.

"Some participation of Argentine partners is possible in this project as well. We are going to make a decision on this together with the Bolivian government when we finish the center's design. We work with Argentina, you know that we signed a relevant agreement a year and a half ago. We have not stopped this work. Part of our delegation will fly from here to Buenos Aires where talks will continue," Kiriyenko said.

On Sunday Russia and Bolivia signed an intergovernmental agreement for cooperation on peaceful uses of nuclear energy and for cooperation in building a nuclear research and technology center.

The center will be fitted with a multirole experimental gamma-ray unit, a pressurized water research reactor with a nominal capacity of up to 200 kilowatts, a cyclotron, an engineering complex and a group of scientific and other laboratories.

The center's research reactor will be designed by Russia's N.A. Dollezhal Research and Development Institute of Power Engineering.

Bolivia will allocate $300 million for the project.

Bolivia's first nuclear research center will be built on a site 4,100 meters above sea level in El Alto.
