Police use tear gas against participants in riots outside Russian consulate in Ukraine's Odesa
ODESA. March 9 (Interfax) - Members of a number of Ukrainian organizations, including the Right Sector (outlawed in Russia), the Self-Defense, and others, picketed in front of the Russian Consulate General building in Odesa, Ukraine, demanding to free Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko.
Almost 100 people gathered outside the building, waving flags and carrying signs, an Interfax correspondent said. Several participants of the protest wore masks.
While picketing, protesters were egging the consulate building, and also stained the consulate's fence with paint.
Protesters attempted several times to break through the cordons and into the territory of the diplomatic mission, but policemen did not let them through. In the course of their scuffle with protesters, police used tear gas.
