Russian volleyball international player Markin admits voluntary administering of Mildronat

MOSCOW. March 10 (Interfax) - Alexander Markin, a Russian international and VC Dynamo Moscow player, who was caught taking Mildronate, was aware that this drug has been banned by WADA since January 1, 2016.

"I knew [what I was taking]. [I was aware] that it would be banned, starting on January 1," Markin said, during a live broadcast of Match TV television.

According to Markin, he had been taking the drug because of his hard gaming season that, last year, included the World League, the 2015 European Games in Baku, the 2015 Summer Universiade in Korea, the Victory Cup, and the training camps with his team.

"The doctor told me, and this is what is said [in the instruction for drug's use], that the medicine leaves the body within three to six hours, but it turned out that, in fact, it may remain in the body for a period of up to three months," he said.
