Russian trade surplus shrinks 48.8% to $7.893 bln in Jan, imports at 10-yr low - Central Bank

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - Russia's trade surplus, calculated by the balance of payments method, narrowed an estimated 48.8% to $7.893 billion in January 2016, from $15.401 billion in the same month last year, the Central Bank said in information posted on its website.

Exports fell 36.4% to $17.627 billion, down from $27.712 billion in January 2015, and imports dropped 20.9% to $9.734 billion from $12.311 billion.

The exports were the lowest monthly total since the $17.419 billion recorded in February 2009 and imports were the lowest since $8.311 billion in January 2006. By comparison, imports in January 2009 were 5.5% higher at $10.280 billion.

Overall trade turnover amounted to $27.361 billion in January 2016, the lowest monthly total since $24.213 billion in February 2005.
