U.S. Congress promises Georgian foreign minister that active support to Tbilisi continues
TBILISI. March 15 (Interfax) - Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze is meeting with U.S. executive and legislative officers in Washington DC on Tuesday.
The minister has been meeting with congressional members, and a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has also been planned, the Georgian Foreign Ministry press service said.
Congressman Mike Conaway (Republican), who represents the Friends to Georgia Group in Congress, assured Janelidze that he would continue to actively support Tbilisi's interests in the protection of territorial integrity and sovereignty and European and Euro-Atlantic integration, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.
"The Congressman stressed the importance of strategic partnership between Georgia and the United States and expressed readiness to promote even broader development of bilateral relations," the ministry said.
The visit of Janelidze to Washington DC will end on March 19.
