Kurds are hoping that Russia will support federalization of Syria in its entirety after country's liberation from ISIL
MOSCOW. March 18 (Interfax) - The federalization of the entirety of Syria can be discussed after the liberation of the territories controlled by terrorists, Selahittin Soro, a representative from the National Congress of Kurdistan in Russia, said.
"Federalization has now been declared in one part of Syria. One cannot currently speak about the federalization of other parts of the country in a situation when most of them are controlled by ISIL. This issue can be discussed after the liberation of these territories," he told reporters, responding to a question from Interfax.
He said that Kurds are hoping that Russia will support the idea of the federalization of Syria, and will not insist that "the countries of the Middle East should stay unitary."
"The presence of Unitarianism led to the tragedy that the Middle East is now going through," Soro said.
The Islamic state is a terrorist group banned in Russia.
