Russian, Qatari leaders note importance of observing truce by all parties to Syrian conflict

MOSCOW. March 21 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Qatari Amir Tamim bin Hamad al Thani held a telephone conversation at the initiative of the Qatari side on Monday, the Kremlin press service reported.

"The sides continued sharing opinions on various aspects of the Syria crisis. The Qatari amir gave a high assessment to the efforts which the Russian side is taking to return to normal the situation in Syria in development of the decision taken by the Russian president on March 14, 2016 to withdraw the main part of the military group from this country," the press service said in a statement.

"The leaders underlined the principled importance of observing the regime of the cessation of hostilities by all the parties to the Syria conflict as the main condition for launching a comprehensive political process under the United Nations aegis," the statement said.

The sides agreed to continue the active joint efforts on the Syria dossier, including its humanitarian component. "Bilateral contacts at different levels were scheduled for these purposes," the press service reported.
