Representatives of Moscow, Tskhinval and Sukhum troubled by intensity of Georgia-NATO military exercises - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. March 24 (Interfax) - Representatives of Russia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia expressed concern over an increase in military cooperation between Georgia and NATO at a recent round of Geneva-based international discussions on Transcaucasia.
"Given Tbilisi's continuing claims to territories of both independent republics, Sukhum and Tskhinval are concerned by the strengthening of the Georgian army's offensive potential and the growing number of joint Georgian-NATO military exercises, which undermine multilateral efforts to stabilize the situation in Transcaucasia," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a report published on its website.
In general, the meeting in Geneva was accompanied by a constructive and business-like atmosphere, the ministry said.
"The participants noted that the situation in the region remains calm and stable. A trilateral exchange of prisoners, conducted on March 10, became an important indicator of interaction between Sukhum, Tskhinval and Tbilisi," it said.
