Russia won't finish talks on resuming flights to/from Egypt until assured of absolute flight safety - Federation Council chairperson
MOSCOW. March 30 (Interfax) - Negotiations on the resumption of commercial flights between Russia and Egypt will not be completed until Russia is assured of the absolute safety of flights, Russian Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko said.
"After what happened to our plane, we have been taking a very careful approach toward issues related to our citizens' security. And until we are assured a hundred percent that all measures essential for providing such security are implemented at Egyptian airports, these negotiations won't be completed," Matviyenko told journalists on Wednesday.
Russia's relations with Egypt remain friendly, and Russia regrets that, following the crash of a Russian aircraft in the Sinai Peninsula, the Egyptian resorts have significantly emptied, she said.
The Egyptian authorities are taking very active steps to persuade not only Russia, but also the rest of the world, that flying from Egyptian airports will be absolutely safe from the viewpoint of preventing possible terrorist attacks.
