Stepanakert: 300 Azeri troops killed, 1,000 wounded

STEPANAKERT. April 4 (Interfax) - Fierce fighting continues in the Karabakh conflict zone, and the bloodiest fighting is taking place in the northeastern and southeastern sectors, sources in the defense and security agencies of the self-proclaimed Nagorny Karabakh republic told Interfax on Monday.

"The most intensive fighting using all types of heavy weapons is going on in the northeastern (Martakert) sector and the southeastern (Hadrut) sector. The Karabakh troops are working on causing the enemy to leave the positions that were taken in the early hours of April 2 as a result of a large-scale offensive on the entire frontline," the source said.

The source said that "the Azeri army is suffering unprecedented losses, primarily in troops." "The number of killed Azeri troops now reaches some 300 people, over 1,000 are wounded, and at least twenty tanks have been put out of action," the source said.
