Yerevan, Stepanakert want cessation of hostilities, truce - Armenian president
YEREVAN. April 4 (Interfax) - Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh stand for the cessation of hostilities and the compliance with the truce regime put into place in 1994, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said on Monday.
"Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh are calling for a ceasefire, for compliance with the 1994 truce, for all of the troops to return to their pre-April 1, 2016 positions, and personnel to the barracks," Sargsyan was quoted by his press office, as saying at a meeting with the ambassadors of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
For the truce to hold, the OSCE must take stabilizing measures, he said.
"First of all, it needs to introduce, as quickly as possible, mechanisms for investigating border incidents and to significantly increase the monitoring mission of the personal representative of the OSCE chairman-in-office. The number of field assistants of the personal representative of the OSCE chairman-in-office in the conflict zone should be increased to record instances of ceasefire violation," Sargsyan said.
