Nagorno-Karabakh army not shelling Azerbaijan's residential areas - Stepanakert

YEREVAN. April 5 (Interfax) - The Defense Ministry of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has said that the republic's Defense Army is not conducting strikes against residential areas of Azerbaijan.

"Staying committed to its tactic, the Defense Ministry of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic states that it has never opened fire on civilian residential areas. Meanwhile, yesterday, in addition to artillery shelling of the city of Martakert and nearby villages, the Azerbaijani side also fired rockets at the locality of Martuni," the press service of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

Azerbaijani Defense Ministry spokesman Vagif Dargahli said on Monday that "if shelling of residential areas along the contact line in Karabakh continues, Defense Minister Zakir Gasanov has issued an order to be prepared to carry out rocket strikes against Khankendi [Stepanakert]."

"The Armenian side has been shelling residential areas in the direction of Agdere and Fizuli since [last] night. The Armenian side is bringing a strike on Khankendi closer by its actions," Dargahli said.
