Three Swedish missionaries expelled from Russia for violating border rules in Buryatia
CHITA. April 5 (Interfax) - Three Swedish nationals have been expelled from Russia for entering a border zone in Buryatia illegally, regional bailiffs said.
"A group of border guards detected foreign citizens as they were entering a specially protected zone, not far from the town of Kyakhta. The Swedes had no documentation allowing them to enter, temporarily stay and move around a border zone," the authorities said.
Having examined the administrative case files, the court found the foreigners guilty of wrongdoing and imposed a 500-ruble fine on each.
"In addition, due to the expiration of their permitted stay in Russia, the court ordered that the Swedish citizens be expelled from the country," the spokesperson said.
The Swedes were engaged in missionary activity and were arrested at the border checkpoint on March 11, the spokesperson told Interfax.
