Medvedev hopes that Russian-Austrian economic ties will get new impetus

MOSCOW. April 6 (Interfax) - The absence of contact at the level of the governments of Russia and Austria reduces trade ties and investment, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said during a meeting with Austrian President Heinz Fischer.

Welcoming the Austrian president, Medvedev said the two countries have very many various projects involving the governments, and he also welcomes a meeting with the Russian-Austrian intergovernmental commission, which has not met for three years now.

"It [the absence of contacts] does not lead to anything good, because the absence of contacts means a reduction of trade ties and a decrease in investment interaction. Last year, our trade turnover went down one-fourth from 2014. Who stands to gain from that? I think it's not good for anyone, Austrian business or Russian business. Of course, that is due to the situation with the prices on resources, and the restrictions that exist. Our opinion is that we need to move on," Medvedev said.
