Putin mentions terms for sustained political solution in Syria, ending influx of refugees to Europe

MOSCOW. April 6 (Interfax) - Resolving the problem of extremism is a necessary condition to resolving Syria's crisis and Europe's refugee problem, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Resolving the problem of extremism is an important condition for a sustained political solution in Syria, ending the influx of refugees to Europe from the Middle Eastern region," he said after talks with his Austrian counterpart Heinz Fischer on Wednesday.

Refugees must be allowed to return to their homes, Putin said.

The latest terrorist attacks in Brussels, Paris and Pakistan's Lahore served as a cruel reminder of the need for the global community to join efforts in the fight against terrorism, the Russian president said.
