Al-Assad views creation of system of political parties important for Syria's future - senator Sablin
DAMASCUS. April 12 (Interfax) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad believes that the formation of a system of political parties will promote the settlement of inter-ethnic and inter-confessional disagreements, Federation Council member Dmitry Sablin told reporters on Tuesday after a meeting with the Syrian president.
"At our talks Bashar al-Assad underlined the importance of establishing a system of political parties in the country, because, in his view, this is a party system which will allow for the ironing out of inter-ethnic and inter-confessional disagreements," the senator said.
Sablin also said that al-Assad "has backed an idea of lawmakers from the Syrian People's Council involvement as observers on the Collective Security Treaty Organization [CSTO] floors."
He also said that, in al-Assad's view, this cooperation will contribute "to the deepening of inter-parliamentary cooperation."
