Belarus to continue making sought-after weapon systems - Lukashenko
MINSK. April 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Belarus intends to continue making its own missile systems to ensure its defensive capabilities, the country's president, Alexander Lukashenko, said during a visit to the ground control complex of the national satellite communications and broadcasting system outside Minsk on Tuesday.
"Today, the missile is the main system of defensive capability. This is the weapon that forces the adversary to think twice before poking his nose in. In this respect, we do have something to say, and we will give it serious attention by creating weapon systems that we need and that are sought-after on the market," Lukashenko was quoted as saying by the BelTA state news agency.
"So, don't worry about the future, security and the defensive capability of our country. We have enough specialists who can create systems capable of countering any adversary. We will always defend our chunk of land. We will not give anything that is ours, but nor do we need anything that is not," Lukashenko added.
The president said he is worried that Belarusians are too concerned by issues of defense capabilities. In this respect, he noted that providing security is the direct responsibility of the commander-in-chief, i.e. the president, under the constitution.
