Lavrov: Syrian Kurds should be involved in intra-Syrian talks in Geneva

MOSCOW. April 13 (Interfax) - Moscow has once again called for inviting the party of Syrian Kurds to the intra-Syrian negotiations in Geneva.

"Most importantly, all opposition members - and there are several groups of them in Geneva - should be involved in the negotiations with the government on an equal basis. It is also necessary to invite the party of Syrian Kurds there, which is still not involved in the Geneva process," Lavrov said.

"All opposition members should work to reach a compromise," he said.

"The main criterion endorsed by the UN Security Council is a mutual agreement between the Syrian government and the entire opposition spectrum on a new constitution, the election procedure, and the formation of new executive institutions," Lavrov said.

"Therefore, all participants in the intra-Syrian negotiations should be pressed on," he said.

The leading political organization of the Syrian Kurds is known as the Democratic Union Party. Turkey is the most categorical opponent of its involvement in the negotiations.
