Objective reasons for sanctions against Russia to be lifted, eased soon - Ulyukayev

HELSINKI. April 13 (Interfax) - Objective reasons have emerged lately for sanctions against Russia to be eased or lifted before long, Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev said during a meeting with Finnish business leaders in Helsinki.

Ulyukayev did not say when in his view sanctions might be lifted. While some agreements are being fulfilled, certain other aspects are arising, and this is "not the best way of doing business," he said.

"You know, we have an expression: one ruble to get in, 10 rubles to get out. It's easier to get in than to get out of such a situation, because all sorts of political circumstances arise, the parties need to get out of such a situation without losing political face," the minister said.

"We find understanding at the national level on this issue. Best of all, we find understanding at the business level, a little bit less with national governments and very little understanding at the international level," he said.

"It seems to me that, objectively, favorable conditions are taking shape for us to get out of this situation," he said, adding that there is progress with the Minsk Accords.

"Unfortunately, as the reasons for retaining sanctions gradually disappear, they have started mentioning other aspects. You know, just like the horizon, which constantly moves away from you. And this is not the best way of conducting affairs," the minister said.

"Therefore, I believe the conditions exist for sanctions to be removed or substantially reduced in the near future. How politicians are taking advantage of these political situations, I don't know," Ulyukayev said.
