Russian imports from non-CIS countries falls 14.2% in Q1 to $32.2 bln - customs

MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax) - Russian imports from non-CIS countries in value terms amounted to $32.25 billion in Q1 2015, which is 14.2% lower year-on-year, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) said.

In March 2016 imports fell 9.7% year-on-year to $13.12 billion, and in comparison with February 2016, imports rose by 19.5%.

Imports of machinery and equipment were $6.22 billion, 12.3% less than in March 2015, chemicals $2.61 billion or 3.9% lower, food and raw ingredients $1.82 billion, or 5.9% lower.

Vegetable purchases fell 40.8% year-on-year, sugar by 36.8%, meat and byproducts by 22%, dairy products by 18%, fruits by 7.4%. However, imports of tobacco grew 6.2%, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages grew 5.8% and fish grew 1.4%.

Imports of pharmaceutical products fell 9.3%

With regard to imports of machinery equipment, purchases of ships and other vessels dropped 44.5% while purchases of land transport means fell 24.5%.
