Chisinau hopes for speedy resumption of talks with Tiraspol on 5+2 format

CHISINAU. April 15 (Interfax) - Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration and Chisinau's representative at talks with Transdniestria Gheorghe Balan has voiced hope for the resumption of talks on the Transdniestrian settlement on the 5+2 format in the nearest future.

Interfax was told at the Reintegration Bureau with the Moldovan government that he made the statement at a meeting with head of the European Union Delegation to Chisinau Pirkko Tapiola.

The report says that at the meeting the sides discussed the current state of the Transdniestrian settlement, the prospects of talks in the framework of the existing dialogue platforms and key problems in the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol.

"Participants in the meeting also discussed the need to strengthen the institutional potential for implementing the reintegration policy. The Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova pointed out to the positive results of the visit to Chisinau, and Tiraspol, of a delegation of mediators and observers of the 5+2 format," the report says.

Balan also spoke of the intensification of the work of industry working groups and joint sessions held in April, and Chisinau's vision "of the settlement of the most pressing and acute problems that the population on both banks of the River Dniester face."

"The Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova thanked the head of the EU Delegation for her significant contribution to the intensification of the exiting platforms of negotiations and the promotion of dialogue in the process of settlement. In turn Tapiola praised the reintegration efforts of the Deputy Prime Minister and assured him that the EU will continue promoting the intensification of the process of the Transdniestrian settlement," the report says.
