By refusing to press Damascus into normalizing Aleppo situation Moscow undermines negotiating process - High Negotiations Committee representative

MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Russia's claims that it is not going to put pressure on Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, to improve the situation in Aleppo as it could have an extremely negative effect on the negotiating process in Geneva, said Riyad Naasan Agha of the High Negotiations Committee.

"Such claims radically undermine the negotiating process," he told Interfax by phone on Monday.

He was commenting on Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov's remarks that Russia has no intention of putting pressure on Damascus in order to stabilize the situation in the Aleppo area.
