Serbia pledges to settle 1995-2000 gas debt by end Q2

MOSCOW. April 20 (Interfax) - LLC Gazprom Export, the Serbian government, JSC Yugorosgaz and SE Srbijagas signed a protocol which calls for extending mechanisms of debt repayment by the Serbian side for Russian natural gas supplied in the period 1995-2000.

Gazprom Export said in a statement that the mechanism was agreed to by the parties in the protocol from December 5, 2014.

According to the signed document, Serbian companies will undertake monthly payments with the goal of completely repaying the debt by June 30, 2016.

"The participation of the Serbian government provides additional guarantees that the Serbian side will implement its commitments to pay back its debt in the agreed timeframe. The parties say the signing of the protocol is the latest confirmation of their commitment to develop collaboration between Russia and Serbia in the gas industry," the press release says.

Serbia bought 1.71 billion cubic meters (bcm) of Russian gas in 2016 and intends to buy 1.82 bcm in 2016.
