DPR sees opportunities for peaceful settlement in Donbas, says Kyiv is preparing military solution
DONETSK. April 22 (Interfax) - Alexander Zakharchenko, the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, says there are several options of a peaceful solution to the conflict in Donbas, saying that Kyiv is nevertheless, preparing to make another attempt to resolve the conflict using military methods.
"There are options. The first and the easiest one, is that Kyiv orders its military to return to the barracks, those that are located outside the former Donetsk region, and current Donetsk People's Republic. And a percentage of probability of such a scenario exists, strange as it may be," Zakharchenko told reporters on Friday.
He said "this depends on how the political and economic situation will unfold in Kyiv, and also how the Americans' plans for this region will change, probable due to the elections," he said.
"Another bloodless option is direct negotiations between us and Kyiv, which should be the result of the Minsk process. That's if you take it as a roadmap for settling our conflict, not as a cover for the re-deployment of troops, which Kyiv is doing. The probability rate of this scenario is even higher, but it also depends on the internal and external context," he said.
Despite that, Kyiv continues preparing for a military solution to the conflict, he said.
"However, we now see a different picture. Kyiv is consistently and persistently preparing for another attempt to resolve our conflict using military methods. We also understand very well that the war in Donbas is a factor of internal policies in Kyiv, that is, a factor in the fight for power [...] We cannot influence the situation in Kyiv, at least now, so we are waiting and preparing to give such a rebuff that will lead to the full capitulation of the Kyiv regime," he said.
