Russia considering buying 40 tonnes of heavy water from Iran - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax) - Moscow is contemplating a possibility of buying from Tehran 40 tonnes of heavy water from a nuclear facility in Iran, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"We are in fact contemplating such a possibility," Mikhail Ulyanov, head of the ministry's department for non-proliferation and arms control, told Interfax.
He was commenting on Tehran's claims about talks with Russia over a sale to Moscow of 40 tonnes of heavy water from the nuclear facility in Arak.
A possible deal with Tehran will be fully consistent with the provisions of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran's nuclear program, whereby the total weight of heavy water in Iran must not exceed 130 tonnes, and any excess is to be sold on the international market, Ulyanov said.
