EBRD will issue extra EUR 40 mln to Ukraine for building ISF-2 at Chernobyl NPP

CHERNOBYL. April 26 (Interfax) - The Cabinet of Ministers and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have agreed on the issue of additional EUR 40 million for the construction of the Interim Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility (ISF-2).

According to an Interfax correspondent, the corresponding memorandum was signed on April 26 in the framework of events in connection with the 30th anniversary of the accident at Chernobyl nuclear power plant (NPP).

The agreement was signed by Ukrainian Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Ostap Semerak and EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti.

The third agreement on amendments to the Grant Agreement between the government of Ukraine, state specialized enterprise Chernobyl NPP as a recipient and the EBRD provides for an additional grant of EUR 40 million to finance building ISF-2.

ISF-2 is designed for accepting and storage of spent fuel assemblies and spent additional absorbers stored at Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
