Turkmen president to pay official visit to Saudi Arabia on May 1-3

ASHGABAT. April 30 (Interfax) - A Turkmen government delegation led by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow is to pay an official visit to Saudi Arabia on May 1-3.

"Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rasit Meredow reported to the president on preparations for the upcoming visit at a government meeting on April 29," the Turkmen state news agency reported on Saturday.

Berdimuhamedow underscored the future visit's significance, saying that it would become an important landmark in history of Turkmen-Saudi relations and would add more dynamism and productivity to their dialogue, the statement says.

Turkmenistan has significantly expanded the range of its foreign political contacts over the past several years, and this has enhanced the country's role in the system of international relations, increased its authority, and improved its image as a responsible and reliable partner open to a constructive and equitable dialogue in everyone's interests, Berdimuhamedow said.

The statement points out that Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia, which established diplomatic relations in February 1992, have interacted productively not only on a bilateral basis but also on the level of authoritative international organizations, primarily the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement.
