Russia, Sweden are close to reaching agreement on handover to Russia of sunken WW I era sub - Kosachyov
MOSCOW. May 5 (Interfax) - Russia and Sweden are close to reaching an agreement on the transfer to St. Petersburg of a submarine owned by the Russian empire in the years of WW I that sank near Stockholm, Konstantin Kosachyov, the head of the Federation Council's committee on international affairs, said.
"A Russian WW I era submarine has been found near Stockholm. We are now close to reaching an agreement on returning the submarine to one of the naval museums of St. Petersburg after it is examined," Kosachyov told reporters after meeting with Swedish Ambassador to Russia Peter Ericson on Thursday.
The senator believes "it would be a very nice, symbolic act of reconciliation on a historical scale."
