U.S. urges Baku, Yerevan to prevent escalation of tensions on frontline

BAKU. May 6 (Interfax) - U.S. Ambassador to Baku Robert Cekuta has declared the importance of compliance with the ceasefire regime by the sides to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and the prevention of new outbreaks of tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen are interacting with the conflicting sides for the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem, Cekuta told reporters on Friday, commenting on Armenia's possible recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh independence.

In his words, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is closely monitoring this subject.

The U.S. cochairman of the OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick is promoting a general agreement, Cekuta said. He believes everyone is doing the utmost for the achievement of peace.

The ambassador pointed to the importance of starting the joint work of the sides on the peace agreement.
