At meeting with Cuban anti-terrorist heroes Naryshkin admires them with valor

MOSCOW. May 11 (Interfax) - The State Duma lawmakers have repeatedly criticized the U.S. legal system for a violation of the rights of five Cuban anti-terrorist heroes, speaker of the lower house of Russian parliament, Sergei Naryshkin, said at a meeting with the legendary Cubans on Wednesday.

"We have warmly supported you at various international floors, including in the contacts with U.S. congress people. At the same time, we have criticized, and denounced, the U.S. legal system, in violation of human rights, including against you," Naryshkin said.

Russia has always followed the fate of the five Cuban anti-terrorists, and has always admired with their valor, staying power, he said.

"The State Duma has twice endorsed a resolution with the address to U.S. legislators, suggesting that the unfair decision taken against you, be revised," Naryshkin said.

The Cuban delegation that arrived in Russia includes the so-called "five of heroes". They are officers in Cuban special services, who had been engaged in intelligence activity in the United States, and later, were sentenced to long terms in prison in the U.S. on charges of espionage. Two of them returned to their homeland, after they had served their relevant sentences. The others were freed, in December 2014, against the backdrop of a thaw in U.S.-Cuban relations.
