A total of eight GLONASS spacecraft launches planned for next two years - Roscosmos
MOSCOW. May 12 (Interfax) - Eight more GLONASS spacecraft may be added to the GLONASS orbit group in the next two years, Andrei Volkov, the head of the department of space global positioning systems of the Russian state corporation Roscosmos, said.
"A total of eight launches of the GLONASS spacecraft will be performed, on the grounds of operational requirements, before the end of 2017," Volkov said at the International Satellite Navigation Forum on Thursday.
One of the satellites will be put in orbit in late May.
The type of a carrier rocket with the help of which the launches are planned to be performed, either a Soyuz or a Proton, will also be determined by means of the necessity of addition to the group, he said.
