Baku counts over 120 truce breaches by Armenian troops in past 24 hours
BAKU. May 15 (Interfax) - The Armenian armed forces have violated ceasefire 124 times on the contact line with the Azeri troops in the past 24 hours, said a spokesperson for the Azerbaijan Defense Ministry.
During shelling, the Armenians used large-caliber machineguns, the spokesperson said.
"Taking account of the operative situation, the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan launched 128 strikes against enemy positions and trenches," the spokesperson said.
The situation in the Karabakh conflict zone escalated in the early hours of April 2. Hostilities ensued, involving aviation and artillery. The parties accused one another of violating truce on the contact line, with each claiming significant enemy losses and few on their own side.
On April 5 Baku and Stepanakert, the capital of the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, announced having reached a ceasefire agreement. The parties have since traded daily accusations of multiple truce violations.
On April 14, a spokesperson for the Armenian defense ministry said the casualty toll caused by the escalation of the conflict with Azerbaijan on April 2-5 amounted to 92 people, including civilians. Azerbaijan has confirmed 31 troop deaths.
