Russian Journalists' Union calls shelling of VGTRK TV crew violation of international law

MOSCOW. May 16 (Interfax) - The Russian Journalists' Union calls the shelling of the VGTRK TV channel crew on the Donetsk-Horlivka highway a disturbing fact of violation of all existing international laws and regulations.

"This incident should be evaluated by professional and many other international organizations. It cannot be tolerated when journalists become the target," Nadezhda Azhgikhina, the Union's secretary, said in a statement posted on the official website of the organization.

As reported, the journalists of the Rossiya (VGTRK) TV channel came under mortar shelling on the Donetsk-Horlivka highway. The shelling was conducted with 82mm mortars, SPG grenade launchers and light weapons from the direction of the major fortified zone of Avdiivka, the TV channel's reporter Stanislav Nazarov said.

There were no casualties following the incident.
